I have started a “new” game for me. Dispatch!

\n

I’ve heard really great things about it and has some voice actors I typically enjoy their work, so ultimately this ended up being an easy choice.

I finished the first episode on my SteamDeck and this honestly plays great on the handheld device, can’t wait to continue!

I’ve decided to go ahead and pick up the new(ish) Arc Raiders game for PS5. I wasn’t sure about this game, as I didn’t fully understand what it was when it came out, other than it was always showing up everywhere in my feeds.

One of my main concerns with the game was I obviously wrongly equated it to a FortNite clone, but without the building aspects of it. I was totally wrong on this one. It’s an “Extraction Shooter” so in essence you spawn on a map that already has a session in progress and then go do things, loot stuff, kill stuff and then find an extraction point, like an elevator, to head back home with your hard-earned goods.

So here is where it gets tricky, you’re not the only player out on this map looking for things. This is in reality, a PvPvE game. You can organically work with other players you come across, or be one of those and shoot to kill everyone you come across.

\n

I personally don’t like PvP and this was also a big reason I hesitated. I’d much rather right the non-player entities, which are various types of robots and drones around the map, dubbed ARC.

\n

Now that I’ve been playing a few hours I’ve only actually come across a couple people who shot at me, and I was actually able to get away without dying. Seemingly no one hit kills here (so far). Most of the time, other players seem to just trying to get their materials and loot and head to extraction themselves. The game having an “open mic” setup makes it so I can just naturally talk and people around me can hear my “Don’t shoot!” shouts, or I can quickly emote that as well. This means you can also hear when other people are around talking to their friends or opening containers as things make noise.

My first impressions are good, but we’ll just have to see how the community evolves as the game goes on and if Embark studios adds more incentives for PvE gameplay. If the community turns toxic, I’ll be moving on to something else.

I am making a post about this, as this is a really big deal for me. I don’t always “finish” a game I play, and even rarely would ever get a 100% completion trophy (or achievement) so I’m making it a big deal.

Warning! Spoilers ahead potentially (achievement list)\n\"Ghost\nI have become the “Legendary Onryo” and completed 100% of the trophies listed after roughly 65 to 70 hours of gameplay. Hours of gameplay that seemed to fly by, hours that when it was finally over made me happy and sad all at the same time.

\n

For me, this is a game that made me want to finish it, but at the same time didn’t want to end. If you know what I mean then you get it.

\n

This game looks fantastic and load times and optimizations were phenomenal on the PS5. There is virtually no loading times when you do fast travel, but this game really makes me actually not want to use the fast travel mechanism as there are so many things to see and random encounters you can come across while you’re traveling across the world of Ezo.
